Our work with dolphins is just part of Care for the Wild’s practical work to fight animal cruelty, promote animal welfare, rescue and help animals in need and make a difference!
Care for the Wild International’s work to help dolphins is wide ranging and is funded by our dolphin adoption scheme and donations from supporters. As with all of our work we aim to make a difference by providing practical help to aid animals in most need. Projects we are involved with include teaming up with researchers at Otago University in New Zealand to help save the world’s rarest marine dolphin, the Maui’s dolphin, from extinction and rescuing stranded whales and dolphins in Scotland.
Care for the Wild works with the Cetacean Research and Rescue Unit in Scotland to provide immediate rescue and care for stranded whales and dolphins. As part of this work we donated the first ever specialist whale and dolphin ambulance in the UK, a Land Rover Defender equipped with vital apparatus to locate, treat and re-float stranded marine mammals. Following that Care for the Wild funded a mobile veterinary laboratory that can be attached to the ambulance.

We also support research on dolphin behaviour and ecology to inform future policies for protecting dolphins and their habitat.
Care for the Wild’s work to protect the nearly extinct Maui’s dolphin is being carried out in conjunction with researchers at Otago University in New Zealand. Due to this work the government has now abandoned plans to carry out potentially lethal research on the dolphins. We will now be concentrating on realising effective protection for the last surviving members of this troubled species.

Much of the work we do is funded by our dolphin adoption scheme which allows people to support these endangered animals. The rest of our work is funded by donations from our supporters.
Our aim is to make a difference and help dolphins wherever they are in need which is why we are working to save them all over the world.
