One Elephant is killed every 15 minutes, every hour, every day in Africa. They are killed by poachers for their tusks to be sold to make trinkets and artefacts. Elephants need help – will you push yourself to help save these beautiful animals?

Rachel and Kate Bupa runKate and Rachel’s story:

“They passed Mum with just 400m to go and were thrilled to hear the shouts of encouragement. Over the line and they were euphoric that a) they had completed the race and b) had beaten their best time. They ran it in just over 76 mins. Thrilled to receive such prestigious (and heavy) medals and are now talking about their next race! They were also delighted to know their fundraising efforts will help us rescue and protect elephants. Well done Kate and Rach..!”

Rachel and Kate ran the Bupa 10k for us – you can still support them by clicking on their JustGiving page!

Why I’m Running for their Lives – Sarah Ridge

Sarah decided to run the Connemara Marathon in the Republic of Ireland for us. Here’s why:

Sarah Ridge, running Connemara Marathon for Care for the WildI decided to fundraise for ‘Care for the Wild International’ because working to protect and care for wildlife is something extremely close to my heart.

Something which has been on my mind recently has been the barbaric situation in Taiji, for which Care for the Wild supported a protest of over 1000 people for in February.

Alongside this cause, the organisation runs a humane tourism campaign called RIGHT tourism: Responsible, Informed, Guilt-free, Humane tourism. This also advocates the fair treatment of dolphins in dolphinariums, and other creatures alike. I would urge everyone to educate themselves on these matters. The more people who know and act, the more we can do to stop it.

Working together every step of the way

Olivia Lovegrove RunnerOver the last six years over 50 people have ‘Run for their Lives’ with Care for the Wild to support wildlife here in the UK and around the world. 2014 is an important year for us as we reach 30 years of caring for the wild.

The experience we have gained from these dedicated individuals continues to develop each year. When you run an event for us, we understand the personal commitment you make to your training, nutrition, fitness and stamina. We know that by combining the correct preparation with your passion for wildlife you will cross that finish line.

Running is an individual event, but many benefit from having the support of the team in addition to their family, friends and colleagues. You will have access to all the organisers’ and sponsors’ pre-race events. Our Gold Bond places guarantee you the best support available.

We ask each runner to fundraise an agreed amount. These funds are vital to our work and make a real difference to the species we are supporting – In 2014 all teams will be running for elephants. To read more about why they need our help, click here.

Get, Sett…Go!

In 2013, Care for the Wild was represented by a team of runners at the Brighton and London Marathons who ran on behalf of badgers.

Wearing our specially designed ‘Cure not Kill’ shirts, sponsorship money they raised went towards our efforts to stop the ill-advised badger cull which took place this year. To find out more about the cull, see here.
